Recipe for Success in Piano Study

  • Presume competence always. Your child can and will learn to play the piano.
  • Attend lessons consistently. This is crucial to a student’s success in music. Please make every effort to keep your scheduled lesson a priority.
  • Practice assigned material in order to see progress. For some students, this may require involvement on the part of the parent. Consider practicing with your child as an enriching bonding experience. You may even discover your own musical interests!
  • Arrive on time for your lesson each week, as other students will most likely be scheduled directly before and after you.
  • Bring all materials to each lesson. Consistent failure to do so can result in considerable setbacks in progress.
  • Avoid distraction during lesson time. Parents and siblings should not attend lessons with the student. Exceptions may be made for certain students with special needs and very young students so that parents may learn how to work with the student at home.
  • Please do not offer guidance or discipline during the lesson unless directly requested by the instructor. Respect the autonomy of both the student and the instructor as well as the cultivation of the productive teacher-student relationship.
  • Please bring the following additional supplies: a lined notebook and a tote bag for all music and materials.
  • Purchase assigned music promptly. This can be purchased from the studio at the retail price plus tax, or from a retailer of your choice.

“Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” - Albert Einstein

Makeup Policy

  • Please avoid canceling lessons unless it is unavoidable to do so (such as with contagious illness).
  • Lessons cancelled by the instructor will be pro-rated or a makeup will be provided.
  • If you know you must miss a lesson in the upcoming month, the lesson can be pro-rated before the invoice goes out and payment is made.
  • Makeup lessons or credits for lessons cancelled by students will not be given.
  • If you are unable to attend a lesson, you will be provided with one of the following options:
    • Zoom Lesson:  This is a great way to make a lesson happen if, for some reason (such as contagious illness), a student cannot attend a lesson. Zoom lessons will take place during your regularly scheduled lesson time. In most cases, a parent will need to participate in the lesson to offer support.
    • Pre-Recorded Lesson:  Students may submit video recordings of their assigned repertoire before their scheduled lesson time.  Videos may be send to the instructor directly. The assigned lesson time will be used to provide written and/or video feedback as well as follow-up assignments.
  • If a student has an extended illness, injury, or other situation resulting in a long-term scheduling conflict or absence, please discuss with the instructor options for extra makeups or reserving your space in the studio.

Vacation Policy

Students may take up to two consecutive weeks of vacation tuition-free. Each additional week will be charged at the usual rate to reserve the student's spot.
For example, if a student will be gone for 5 weeks, then tuition will be paid for the last 3 weeks of the vacation.
